Deformative knee osteoarthritis

What is Knee Osteoarthritis?

Deformative knee osteoarthritis is a condition where the cartilage between the femur and the knee wears down, leading to bone deformation and pain. Symptoms include pain during walking, pain when climbing or descending stairs, and difficulty sitting in a kneeling position.

Treatment methods

Treatment options include exercise therapy, medication for pain relief, joint injections, and orthopedic devices.

Surgical methods

For cases resistant to conservative treatment, surgery is considered.
  • Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) involves replacing the entire knee joint with an artificial one.
  • Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty (UKA) involves replacing only one compartment of the knee joint.
In these procedures, damaged bone is removed and replaced with metal components.

TKA is performed for patients with widespread joint damage, while UKA, a relatively newer procedure, is suitable for patients with damage limited to the inner part of the joint.
