- To develop nursing staff who can acquire better basic knowledge and attitudes as medical professionals and improve their clinical practice skills while gaining experience.

New nursing staff training system
To support the growth of each new nurse, a senior nurse (preceptor) is assigned to them for one year. Based on the training plan for new nurses, the education staff, department managers, education committee members, and preceptors collaborate to create a support system tailored to each individual under the motto “Everyone teaches, everyone learns together.”We also encourage participation in the Kagoshima Prefecture multi-facility joint training sessions for new nurses. These sessions provide an opportunity for new nurses to share experiences and engage with peers, which is highly beneficial for their mental health and overall well-being.
Preceptorship system
We provide support to new nurses (preceptees) through guidance from experienced nurses (preceptors) to help them adapt to the workplace and fully demonstrate their abilities (Preceptorship System). Each new nurse receives personalized support tailored to their individual personality and pace, ensuring steady progress until they achieve independence. We foster a secure and supportive environment where new nurses feel comfortable saying, “I don’t know” when they need help, allowing them to grow with confidence and reassurance.
Night shift system
At our facility, we operate on a two-shift system. We carefully plan the start of night shifts for each new nurse, coordinating with education staff, department managers, preceptors, and the nurses themselves, taking into account their individual growth and pace. For both the initial and subsequent night shifts, new nurses work alongside their preceptors. After each night shift, we conduct a debriefing to ensure they feel confident and supported in managing night shifts effectively.
Continuing education
At Shunyo-kai Central Hospital, we support nurses in setting goals, engaging in proactive learning, and pursuing self-improvement and professional development. We provide a comprehensive environment for skill enhancement, not only focusing on individual self-study but also supporting those with a strong desire to learn. We fully back participation in external training, e-learning, on-demand courses, academic conferences, and certification exams. These activities are generally treated as work hours, with the hospital covering the costs of tuition and transportation.
E-learning is particularly well-received, allowing nurses to access materials from home computers or smartphones at their convenience, facilitating self-paced learning. The content is designed to be clear and effective, enabling significant skill improvement even within limited time constraints.

Initiatives in nursing research
To improve the quality of nursing, we are engaged in nursing research that examines everyday nursing practice from a scientific perspective. The research findings are summarized and presented in internal hospital presentations and shared at academic conferences both within and outside the prefecture.Narrative presentation
In our Narrative Presentation sessions, nursing staff describe clinical events and situations they have experienced. By reflecting on and verbalizing their nursing practice in the first person, they examine their own nursing perspectives. The aim is to foster the development of their nursing views through sharing various experiences and listening to others. Sharing "nursing practical knowledge" helps facilitate mutual learning between the storyteller and the audience.Scholarship system
We support individuals who aspire to become nurses. This program is designed for those currently attending specialized schools or five-year integrated programs, or those who are considering pursuing a nursing career in the future. Our hospital has many staff members who have obtained their nursing licenses through the scholarship system. We are committed to supporting and encouraging those who have dreams and goals in the nursing field.
